A popular recipe from the Middle East. Falafel is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Falafel is a traditional Arab food, usually served in a pita, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flatbread. The falafel balls are topped with salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces. Falafel balls may also be eaten alone as a snack. I made these falafel sandwiches in iftar.It is delicious and healthy in its nutrition. Diet conscious family members can eat these falafel sandwiches without any hesitation. They are less spicy but delightful. I learnt this recipe from chef Mehboob khan and it is too good.
For Sauce:
Cucumber 1
Crush black pepper half tsp.
Lemon juice 3tbsp.
Salt tsp.
Yogurt half cup
Garlic(chopped) 1tbsp
Oil tbsp
Fresh coriander few leaves
Mint few leaves
Take a cucumber and grate it well. Then press it so that water could release. Then add yogurt,salt,black pepper and lemon juice in it.Now heat oil in the pan and fry the garlic. Then pour the fried garlic in sauce. Mix well sauce is ready.
For Falafel Patty:
Boiled Chickpeas 2 cup
Black pepper half tsp.
Cumin powder 1tbsp.
Onion(chopped) 1
Garlic(chopped) 1tbsp
Salt 1tsp.
Red chilli powder 1tbsp.
Baking powder half tsp.
Lemon juice 1tbsp
Bread Crumbs 1 cup
Oil 4tbsp ( for frying)
Plain flour ( for coating)
In a blender, Put together boiled chickpeas, black pepper, cumin powder,onion,garlic,salt,red chilli powder, baking powder and lemon juice. Blend it well then add 1 cup breadcrumbs you can add bread slices 2-3 instead of bread crumbs it’s all your choice. Now blend the mixture again that it becomes a smooth paste.
Now heat 4tbsp oil in a pan. And make flat patties of the chickpea paste. Coat the patties in dry plain flour and then fry them on both sides till golden.
Assembling:
Pitta Bread
Salad leaves(chopped)
Tomato( cut in cubes)
Chilli Sauce ( optional)
Heat Pita bread in nonstick pan and then cut into half.
Now Make a slit in the center of bread to make a pocket. Then add Falafel Pattie in the pocket, add sauce, add chopped salad leave and tomato cubes.
If you want to make it more spicy then add chilli sauce in it.Falafel Sandwiches are ready to serve.
